There is a space in between.
Between home and independence. Between traditional services and residential facilities. Between childhood and adulthood.
In that space are young people who don't always fit neatly into any one box. They may not need a locked facility or highly restrictive environment, but returning home may not be the right option either. They are growing toward independence while still needing the consistency, guidance, and support of adults who are willing to show up.
That is where Compass Homes fits.
Compass Homes was created to provide a small, home-based alternative for older youth who need a safe place to land while they figure out what comes next.
We call our staff Guides because that is what we ask them to do. They provide structure, compassion, safe alternatives, direction, and mentorship while walking alongside each young person. Our Guides understand that the path toward independence can be rocky. Sometimes progress takes another conversation, another opportunity, another drive across town—or simply an adult willing to go the extra mile and show up again tomorrow.
We believe connection gives direction, and belonging brings us home. A young person's past is part of their story, but it does not dictate their future.
Small by design.
Compass Homes is preparing to welcome youth into a four-bed residential home, with an additional bed available for emergency needs. Staying small allows us to know the young people in our care—not simply manage a program around them.
Daily life is intentionally ordinary: meals around a table, school, work, appointments, responsibilities, recreation, conversations, celebrations, difficult days, second chances, and opportunities to practice the skills that adulthood will require.
Our work extends beyond the walls of the home. We help youth strengthen connections with family and other important people in their lives, education, employment, community resources, health and behavioral-health services, and supportive adults who can remain part of their lives long after they leave Compass Homes.
Because ultimately, our goal isn't for a young person to become good at living in a program.
Our goal is to help them build a life beyond one.
